I dropped a hundred dollar bill on the floor and didn't even realize it until the waitperson walked over and reached under the table and asked, "does this belong to one of you?"
How easy would it have been to walk away with my hard earned cash-ola???
This is just kind of place all neighborhoods need, good food, great wine and a smartly dressed crowd. The perfect storm right in the heart of San Francisco.
Okay. They decided to fill the squid with sausage. NOT AS GOOD. They lose a star until they take the sausage out.

There are tons of chicks in here (the wine bar part). But before you run out the door with your blazer and cologne on, they're all gossiping with a girlfriend about men they currently love, hate and love to hate.
Anyway, I came here after work to gossip with a girlfriend, and I had a great time.
Wine bar food is usually on the bleh side for me, but it wasn't bad here. My happy-hour selections included some kind of potato cake, an ahi tuna and avocado roll with leafy green garnish and a flight of "world reds" that included a heavenly malbec. We capped it with a sampler platter of 6 ice creams; the salted caramel gives even Bi-Rite a run for its money.
I'm sticking with wine and desserts, since the little apps were just so-so.
An N-Judah is right in front, but try not to break things if/when it lets you down. Again.

Probably my favorite neighborhood place in SF. Luckily I only live a few blocks away! I prefer the winebar to the restaurant; its just cozier. The wine list is very interesting and I love getting a few things and sharing them. The wild mushroom dumplings are not to be missed and I also love the thai chopped salad. Mmm, I think I may be due another visit soon!
"I have CDO. It's like OCD, but the letters are in alphabetical order. Like they should be."
That's my favorite quote. And precisely why I like the name Eos.
"What does Eos stand for," you politely ask? Well, dear reader, I have a few guesses:
---Eat Our Squid---
The Thai sausage-stuffed calamari is to die for. Also worth mentioning....mushroom dumplings. Mmm savory! The Ahi Tower looked like it had a mayo-based sauce, which makes it like a hot guy with Herpes - Sorry, but despite your pleading, I ain't gonna touch it.
---Ergo Other Spots---
If Cole Valley is your desired dining/drinking destination, and you're looking for an intimate and unpretentious setting, come here. The tapas are terrific, albeit a little spendy, and the servers are friendly, but not inyourfaceeateateat pushy. We stayed in the Wine Bar and didn't once feel pangs of jealousy toward those seated on the restaurant side.
Great date spot and on the N-Judah line - which means that we can take the train here and you can get obliterated on affordable wine, without me getting pissy and throwing your car keys down the storm drain.

Why all of the three stars?
I thought this place was awesome. We had a great meal and wine for a relatively good price. The place had nice decor, and the service was very timely.
The Seared Rare Ahi Tuna Tower-amazing! the sauce was incredible.
And the Cornmeal Crusted Scallop was to die for. My husband loved the Shiitake Mushroom Dumplings, but they were bit salty. He also like the stuffed squid.
And the desserts were incredible! We all shared everything--the molten cake, the ice cream platter just to name a few.
I don't understand all the playa hatin', this place was the bomb!! Not to mention all of the wine!!

EOS is a great local watering hole, as i live close by in the inner sunset. the wine bar is great for a romantic date, or catching up with a friend. They have an awesome Alsacian white by the glass and some great menu items such as the mushroom dumplings served in a brown butter sauce. the cheese plate is a must have--go for the truffle tremor! For valentine's day this past year they helped my boyfriend create a very sweet surprise accommodating him to put a bouquet of roses on the table before we arrived and helping us decide an a great Spanish cava. If you want an after work glass of wine and cheese plate i would highly recommend EOS.

For those of you following the dating (mis)adventures of yours truly, I want to let my fans (or pitiers?) know that, yes, I have not taken a single night off in over a week. I'm pooped, but for your entertainment, I will keep at it.
Last night was date #1. I like a good cabernet, so he suggested Eos. I find myself in the Inner Sunset, I also find myself in the Upper Haight, but somehow have never found myself in Cole Valley. It was like entering a whole new world there on Cole.
That front curtain is strange but I'm sure there must be a reason for it. We sat upstairs in the wine bar and had a few delicious glasses of wine.
Eos is cool, the service is friendly, and the food looked and smelled good. Kudos to him for suggesting it and I'm glad I gave it a go, but unless I move closer to it, I doubt I'll be hitting it again any time soon.

Ate dinner at the wine bar last night. Food was great, service was good, atmosphere was fun, yadda yadda yadda. Here's what matters, and it deserves caps for proper emphasis:
HALF-PRICE BOTTLES OF WINE DURING HAPPY HOUR
Yes, bottles. BOTTLES!
You're welcome.
Finally made a return trip to EOS to take advantage of happy hour on the bar side of the space. Select wines and specialty drinks (sangria!) for $5 and $1 oysters.
Lovely space, efficient service, good value. I'd definitely come back.

I came here specifically for the panna cotta ... and anxiously ate through a mediocre caesar salad (they gave me chopsticks, which I'm not complaining about but thought it was kinda weird), and an unsatisfying order of the hanger steak with its strange/hard/cold fingerling potatoes and stringy onion rings...in hopes that the panna cotta would save the day. My legs shook in excitement as the beautifully decorated plate of white, jiggly goodness landed on our table. It was clean and looked very appetizing...unfortunately, it didn't cut it. It was very thick and tasted like...alot of buttercream went into it...(??) ... and it had non traditional fruits like apple and something else I don't remember. Maybe I'm just very particular about it...
In the end, we never finished it...
The restaurant decor is very nice and the lights are dim to create a romantic setting (very dim .. if ur date doesn't look good, they may in this lighting) ... the service was pretty good...the bill was...expensive for the mediocre food we had :( I don't think I'll be coming back but I'm glad I tried it to see for myself...

Ok, so I go to EOS Wine BAr (Not full restaurant) with my boyfriend and friend Jen. We are excited and looking forward to dinner and drinks.
I am looking forward to connecting with them over dinner.
Get there and we get a table, but they squish us in, so I am fairly uncomfortable for the entire meal.
Meal:
Shiitake Mushroom Dumplings -Delicious, but a bit salty
Madras Curry Potato Cakes-Just OK
Seared Rare Ahi Tuna Tower-Yummy, but portion is small
Steak-So good but WAY TOO MANY ONIONS-If chef is reading this, please make a changes becuase it was good but could have easily been better
Grilled Calamari-HORRIBLE- tasted like rubber. We ordered no bacon and item came out w/ bacon. They had to reorder-Was not good and won't ever get again
Wine-YUMMY
Service-Good
I fucking love this place! Every time I try a new restaurant, I quietly think, hmm it sure isn't EOS. You really can't go wrong with the menu. I've tried just about everything and have have fallen in love with each tasteful experience. Its all small plates which allows you to try several different items. I also recommend pairing with a wine flight (the somalie is quite knowledgeable and can find something suitable for your taste), mmm, and don't forget to save room for dessert, because after you've topped it all off with the "Molten Dark Chocolate Cake with Salted Carmel Ice Cream and Peanut Brittle," you're bound to be sold on this place FOREVER!
I would say 3.5 stars.
Five of us came here for a birthday dinner and were all intrigued by the decor. Our napkin rings were hose clamps which really were out of place with the vibe of the restaurant. Nevertheless, we wanted to give the food a fair shot. Most of our party were vegetarian, so we got all vegetarian fare. Everything was tasty, but small. As others have mentioned, you do feel a bit hungry at the end of your meal. And it is a bit on the pricey side. I think it was worth going to once, but I'm not clamoring to go back anytime soon.
So, had to take a fav customer out to dinner & he suggested EOS! After perusing the menu it looked quite tasty and I have to say...it was!
First off, I kinda like Cole Valley as its like being safe but not really....the deceiving version of the land of milk & honey as it is so quaint and adult yet two blocks away is the Haight (you know what that means!). So I dig the false sense of safety I feel there.
The decor was pleasant...I always judge a restaurant by the bano & both were nice...
I did enjoy the Shitake Mushroom Dumplings but the Tuna & Avacado had overcooked/not even close to raw Tuna (not so poke as the menu tempted me with). This was not a roll as well as I was hoping for sushi but rather egg rolish...BUT the curry was BOMBdizzle & I got drunk so that makes any night a great sucess!

EOS is a restaurant (on Cole and Carl) and a Winebar (on Carl next door). I love the sleek industrial feel of the main restaurant. The best seats are with your back to Cole street, looking at the cool bar area. But, I don't recommend sitting upstairs in the stuffy loft area unless you want to feel really snuggly.
My favorite item on the menu that never goes wrong are the Madras Potato curry cakes. Simply divine yummy potatoness. The wines are always fun; I enjoy getting a flight rather than buying a glass or a bottle. Another really fun thing about this place? You can get ice cream in great Bi-Rite flavors like Salted Caramel--to go!
I like Cole Valley and any reason to go there.
EOS is a place for a date. Good wine, great food, great presentation. Though a bit loud sometimes. So lean in closer...
A bit pricey as well. Once again, bring a date ;-)
$1 Happy hour oysters with $5 sangria and wine. Come early and it's easy to find parking. There's not too much eye candy but it's a nice spot for meeting up with friends on an early Friday evening.
During happy hour, EOS is the perfect place for a first date. The menu & wine list executes well, and who can argue against the oysters! Also being out in the warm & relaxed atmosphere of Cole Valley, and right on the Muni Line(s) put this place on the top of my list.
Good wine, lotta dollars for little plates.
Entree burger saves money.
No liquor.
Serious service, slightly pompous.
I usually balk at the idea of going anywhere that involves the N-Judah, because it means that I am going somewhere foggy and that on my way back I will have to stand in the cold mist and wait 40 minutes for the train to take me home.
I did make an exception when I was dragged to Eos for a double date. Now, Brian gets excited when he gets coupons in the mail for free McDonald's crispy chicken sandwiches, so I was a little fearful about how our Eos experience would be. I knew he would be that guy. The guy who loudly says, "so is this our food or did they accidentally just spill some sauce on a plate and bring it to us?" The guy who orders wine, "we'll take the $32 cabernet." The guy who would rather buy 120 bags of Top Ramen when they are on sale for 10 for a dollar than spend those $12 on a beautifully executed dish of rich little dumplings. The guy who actually balances his checkbook and has money in his 401k.
Nobody made a reservation, of course, because I didn't plan the damn dinner, so we were lucky to squeeze into one of the high top bar tables. We ordered a bottle of some Italian red and a few of the small plates. The small plates are DAMN small, by the way. If things are supposed to be served family style, you better not have more than two people in your family.
Our server seemed like your typical gay man in his 40's who moved to San Francisco in the 80's to party, made shit loads of money slinging drinks in the Castro, doing amyl and fucking everything in sight, and found himself twenty years later in the same city, bored, jaded, and no longer eye candy. However, after so many years in the restaurant industry it can be difficult to go into anything else where you sleep in until noon, make $200 in 6 hours, and get free food and drinks. He was a really good server in the technical sense, but I could sense how burnt out he was. He dryly mentioned that he was absconding with our dirty utensils, and I had a flash of empathy.
The best servers (or any FOH workers) are the smart, clever ones, the ones who have college degrees and more life experience than you can shake a stick at. Unfortunately, these are the same ones who get burnt out by all the fucktards who come in spending daddy's money and have the mindset that people who work in the service industry are their servants. Having been treated like an idiot enough times by customers who don't know an appellation from an aperitif is enough to kill anyone's graciousness with the public. We tipped him well, on top of the $15 in taxes on a $100 tab (that Healthy SF initiative is killing me) but he really needs a vacation, and maybe a sugar daddy.
So, next time you want to go somewhere and treat your server like shit, don't go to Eos. Perhaps I could offer you some vouchers for free McDonalds fried chicken sandwiches. I know a guy who has some extras.
Edit: sorry this review is so fucking long. That's what happens when I write them on Word and then cut and paste.

If you're looking to do a progressive dinner or create your own tasting menu this is a place to go. There are lots of great items on the menu and the small plates are good to share with 2 or 3 people at the most. You'll go away hungry if you only order 3 or 4 dishes so make sure you order enough. Don't miss the shitake mushroom dumpling or the pork tenderloin. And for chocolate lovers the molten lava cake was oozing with dark chocolate...wow!!!
If you're looking for a typical big dinner dish or aren't willing to share your food this might not be the place for you, however if you're willing to try a lot of different tasty dishes this place has them.
It was our 1st time to EOS...I had admired from a distance for some time, but hadn't taken the plunge because of the prices. Overall, I'd say that the atmosphere was modern, but comfy, the food was really nice, the wine fantastic, but the whole package a little overpriced.
We started with the Heirloom Tomato Crustini (REALLY delicious and fresh) to share. For entrees, we ordered the hanger steak and the hazelnut encrusted halibut. The hanger steak was prepared perfectly and the flavors were great, but the quality of the cut could have been a little nicer. The halibut was also cooked perfectly, and the encrusted top was freakin' delicious, but the piece of fish was so decadent that it was a little too salty.
For dessert, we ordered the Molton Chocolate. Definitely delivered for the chocolate fan (my husband). I enjoyed the fresh strawberries and caramel ice cream that paired that plate.
We did ask our waiter for suggestions on the wine and preferences on the entrees. He was incredibly helpful, and we were both really happy with the wine choices. I also really like the portion sizes. Great to share and try several different items, and just enough to be satisfied without satiated.
I understand that there are Happy Hour specials...I would be very interested in going back if it were possible to take advantage of the specials. Otherwise, we had a great experience, but I'd probably be pretty sparing to return at full price.
It's been awhile since I've been to the EOS wine bar but my recent visit was very positive. Great wines and friendly, knowledgeable bar tenders w/ regard to wine advice. Very unpretentious wine atmosphere as well.
Oh this is so, totally Yuppie or the 'made it' crowd. Not stare you down type, but they are the 'I'm comfortable with who I am... and I dress damn good' type.
AND they not ashamed to admit they like happy hour specials.
Date and I arrived at 6p on a Wednesday. Got a table - all but 2 tables were filled. Happy hour consist of $5-7 wines, $8 food specials and $1 OYSTERS!!!
The oysters were fairly fresh, and likewise the rest of the food ordered was lovely. That coconut curry broth they cook the mussels in is divine... more bread please!
The waiter was courteous... for such a little place it is very well staffed. I didn't have the 'random plates' problem earlier reviewers had... but then, it was only a Wednesday.
As happy hour came to an end at 7p, so did the crowd start to trickle out. Time to go and considering how much we drank and ate... the damage wasn't too bad.
I am a fan... and definitely had a good experience with my first visit to Cole Valley!!
I'm really hot and cold on different aspects of Eos, but all said I would say it's below average.
I went to Eos tonight for a glass of wine and mussels with a friend. I spent all of my time in the wine bar of the establishment, so that certainly could have colored my experience.
The wine list wasn't particularly inspired. My friend and I ordered a Cab and a Bordeaux from their "full bodied" section, and found both to be rather average-tasting (our palette phasers are set to Yellow Tail, so wine snobs feel free to blast us). I feel like when I pay $12 for a glass of wine in a wine bar, I should be prepared to taste something significantly above average. The menu didn't deliver.
The decor and atmosphere were great. Cute multi-eyed monster art hangs on the walls. The music is smooth, and all of the patrons keep to themselves.
One very weird quirk about Eos is the smell. To be specific, the wine bar smells like ass; tt's the very strong bleachish smell you get when you walk into a dive bar. The kind of smell that makes you feel bad for the poor soul that had to clean the Natty Lite and vomit out of the bathroom stalls. Familiar smell for many of us, but completely unexpected in Eos.
To top the review off, the food was great. A tasty bowl of mussels. I only had two, but the broth was excellently-spiced and a pleasure to dip my bread in. (Fortunately, by the time we ate the ass small went away.)
I don't think I'd go here again. If I had to find a wine bar in Cole Valley, I'd buy a bottle of nice wine and a good wedge of cheese from one of the many local shops and head back to my place.

The food here was very flavorful. The service was good and the atmosphere was retro. I loved the ribs!! They were unbelievable. Although the portions look like the ones I feed my four year old nephew. You have to order a ton of items and the prices were that of regular entres. Huh?
I have decided I am over the tappas type places.
This review is for the wine bar: I can totally recommend it. Nice, cozy atmosphere with great staff. Loved the wine flights they offer - perfect way to taste different wines w/o the need to risk your driver's license... Food was truly satisfying, too - just keep in mind that food is meant as appetizers only - don't expect to be extremely full (ok, I'm a tall, hungry guy...)
OK, I gave it a second try after having to choose a place in Cole Valley for my gf's going away din din. When I called ahead, I mentioned my horrible experience along with the fact that I bitched and moaned on yelp. They were awesome, gave us extra seating just in case our party grew, and made sure we had our wine flights taking off in no time. Halibut on greens has got to be the best thing ever after work, esp with Chardonnay swishing. Their molten chocolate cake is awesome, and we got all nostalgic about a patient's wife who had given us the recipe years ago. Home made ice cream was yummy, super cute presentation too! My experience in the restaurant was far superior to the trauma endured in their bar.

Really like this restaurant- there's something really cozy but sleek about the place. The lighting is just perfect for a nice mellow dinner out. The food is tasty, esp the pork ribs, thai chopped salad with green papaya (love it!) and hanger steak- yuum...I like to drink wine but am not much a connoisseur, so the waiter was gracious enough to help my friends and I pick out a wine that would go well with our food without making us feel dumb. A really nice dining experience, only drawback may be parking. Cool for a date or with friends.

Eos is a place I've wanted to check out for a while now based on hype.. The interior is very 90's dot com - industrialish and uncomfortable chairs. Food isn't horrible, but way heavy on the garlic and of course, expensive. Two hours after our meal all I could taste was garlic even after brushing and flossing twice.
Oh, and we didn't order dessert. Once they found out it the birthday of one of our parties they brought out two desserts, the cheesecake and the ice cream sampler. Which was nice of them, yet when the bill arrived they'd charged us for both desserts. Which was not super rad. Rather than argue on someone's birthday, we paid and left, won't be returning.
The bathroom was also inexplicably messy and gross.

The following items where decent: lamb, mushroom dumpling's, mussels, potato cake and ahi tuna tower. Items are small kinda like tapas style so if you want to get full prepare to select half the menu ;-)
The wine selection wasn't impressive.
A bit pricey for the portions, service was good, good luck on the parking, overall decent!
I love this restaurant. My favorite things to get are the green beans, mushroom dumplings, and flank steak. But the tuna tartar is also amazing. The food here is really reliable and I have found it pretty easy to just walk in if it's a weeknight. The restaurant is a little crowded and a little noisy but the food is so wonderful that does not matter. The dcor is very simple but clean and elegant. I would not recommend brining little kids to this restaurant only because the seating is a little awkward. The wine bar in the back has a great selection of wine and the same fantastic menu and the main restaurant area. This is really worth trying.
i give this place a 3.5
i like the sampling of wines, shochu and ice cream here. you can all different types of stuff.
the last time i went we had to wait forever for a table and our table was given away then we got another one but it was a table for 2 and we had 4 in our party, so that was interesting.
i would go back again but go early and expect a wait.

Sure it's a wine bar, sure it's owned by the same owner as Bacar... but damn, this is one sweet place to meet for drinks, go on a date, or just have a nice little get away dinner with your significant other. Get reservations though, It's generally a 20 minute or so wait if you don't.
The Roasted Chicken is bomb. Normally I think chicken is just chicken but the server recommended it and I went with it, given it's not the most expensive thing on the menu so he wasn't just trying to get more tip. When it came, my best friend and I split it family style and in about 2 minutes flat, it was devoured. The ceasar was delightful. Tuna poke, succulent. Hangar steak, wonderful. Lamb was perfect. The wine list is extensive and very well chosen, incorporating the world's best of France, Argentina, New Zealand, and of course Napa, into one book - very well assorted and priced... and the service is impeccable. I haven't had a less that excellent time here yet, and I've gone countless times since it's right down the street.
Minus one star for the lack of parking at night and the fact that the food is a tad overpriced.

The Tuna Tower Rocks! I mean seriously Rocks! My girlfriends and I went here for dinner after Pride and not only did they not bat an eye at our colorful and feathery headpieces they actually encouraged our prideful gear. From the moment we walked in we were greeted with warmth and an actual personality from Gabriella, the beautiful hostess with a kick ass wardrobe. Our waitress, Brit, was amazing, fast and had a wonderful sense of humor.
As was mentioned earlier the Tuna Tower is amazing, as was all of our food and I do believe we tried almost everything in the restaurant.
Renee, the fabulous pastry chef made us (I hope I have this correct) Pot De Creme, or something like that, and I believe the word orgasmic was used about ten or twenty times to describe it.
I'm a huge believer in giving props were they are well deserved and no one could be more deserving than the Sous Chef Mike, who's humor, charm, and warmth were appreciated during the evening. Oh, and his culinary skills were OK as well.
So if you are looking for an evening out at a venue with a cool vibe, impeccably dressed hostesses, great food and a cute staff to boot make sure to give Eos a try. I promise you will not be disappointed.

Ambiance was good and it's location is fabulous. But the service is sub-par and the wine similarly not so hot. Maybe it was the wine choices for the wine flights, but I was not so impressed. The bottles may be a better pick, but I like to try different wines when out and about.
Dessert wise - also not so impressive. The molten chocolate cake wasn't so molten (the accompanying ice cream was yummy though!). Didn't try any of their entrees or appetizers.
Ambiance: major metropolitan crowded. Tables really close together, but people know the unwritten rules in this type of setting; keep conversation to the table. Don't look at your neighbors plate, all of that.
Service: top notch. Why? The simple things; they seated us at the best available table instead of the crappy one beside the door. Thanks!
Two choices of wine, they didn't have, so the waitress made a great recommendation and had enough tact to mention kindly that she kept the bottle in the same price range. Why is this great? Because I've been 'recommended' a bottle of wine before when they didn't have my first choice, and it was three times as much, which I didn't know until I got the bill, which just leaves you feeling had.
Our glasses were full at all times, both water and wine.
Food came perfectly timed out, no rushing, no crowding, so I got to truly enjoy each lovely shareable dish in all its glory.
We had, and I recommend this same sequence:
Lemon something Risotto (not on their online menu at this time) - how do they DO that with the lemon flavor and the creaminess....mmmmm
Shitake Mushroom Dumplings. Sauce was divine. Texture was not too soggy - you know how that happens? Sweet and savory.
Chicken curry dish - not on their online menu at this time - moving into a heavier sauce, chicken so tender and moist. But I was saving room for the best:
Grilled Angus Hanger Steak. YES. Slight kick to the sauce was perfect for the final dish. Perfectly pink in the middle. Admittedly could have been a teeny tiny bit more tender, but it definitely wasn't enough to ruin it.
You get brownie bites for dessert with your bill. Ha.
I didn't get dessert but I could smell the creme brulee from across the room - yum.
Go here. It's good, they're nice, you'll be full and happy.

The decor at EOS makes for a cozy date location. In a simple fashion it successfully strikes a balance between light industrial chic and warm, romantic hues, and doesn't lay either on too thick. However on Saturday night, despite reservations, my party was seated in the small mezzanine area, which lacked in the the stylish ambiance that the main dining room shares, though admittedly it did offer a feeling of a bit more privacy, so I suppose it was a fair trade off.
The cuisine is Asian-fusion inspired, and all dishes are served "family style" and are intended to be shared by everyone at your table. Unfortunately, our table found that some items such as small salads did not work well with the family-style concept, so our meal began a bit "clunky". However, as dishes rolled out of the kitchen a bit more frequently, the meal developed a better flow, and we all easily more satified with our dinner than earlier when we were trying to split a bowl of long beans 4 ways. The dumplings (a signature dish) and grilled lamb chops stood out as the big favorites, while the chicken clay pot was so under par that one might have guessed it to have come from a separate kitchen.
Four choices of red wine flights were available that evening in the $20.00 price range. I ordered the Weight & Structure flight which I would indulge in again. Each wine was well paired with the following selection, and it was a pleasure to see that the bartender was very generous with each pour that evening. Be reminded that EOS serves beer & wine only, however, so those interested in cocktails will have to wait to wet their whistle as Kezar across the street.
